Jaén, the main producer of olive oil in Spain, stands out as the jewel of the national olive grove. Andalucía accounts for 80% of the total olive oil production, and Jaén is the leader of the autonomous community with 37%, followed by Castilla La Mancha (8%) and Extremadura (4%). This territory, along with six Andalusian provinces, aspires to be recognized by UNESCO as World Heritage under the designation of Cultural Landscape of the Olive Grove and World Heritage. 

In 2024, five cooperatives and three Jaén oil mills will be distinguished with the prestigious "Jaén Selección" badge from the Provincial Council, highlighting their quality and participation in promotional actions that represent the best of Jaén olive oil. This annual recognition, driven by the Jaén Provincial Council and announced by Jaén, aims to elevate the value of extra virgin olive oil, promote excellence, and strengthen Jaén's international position, which contributes over 20% of the world's olive oil production.

Jaén Selection 2024: recognizing Quality

The "Jaén Selección" seal highlights the quality and uniqueness of the best extra virgin olive oils from Jaén, selected by a jury of fifty professionals in an annual tasting competition. This annual distinction emphasizes excellence in flavor, aroma, and quality, consolidating Jaén's reputation as a world leader in olive oil production.

In the 2024 edition, eight exceptional extra virgin olive oils from the province of Jaén have been awarded the Jaén Selección distinction. These oils were selected from among the 50 participants in the tasting competition, –42 conventional and 8 organic– by 42 companies located in 32 municipalities of the province. Five cooperatives and three Jaén oil mills will proudly carry this emblem on their bottles.

Oro Bailén Picual, Olibaeza Patrimonio Dorado Picual, Puerta de las Villas Edición Especial Picual, Esencial Olive Picual, Puerta del Parque, Tierras de Canena, Jabalcuz Premium Picual and the organic Melgarejo are the selected brands to carry the "Jaén Selección" distinction during the upcoming year.
